HAVE YOUR DONORS DISAPPEARED
AND TAKEN THEIR CHECKBOOK WITH THEM?
Continued #7…and FINAL.
February 4, 2025
Today’s blog post is a continuation of the recent posts where I have been re-printing previous blogs to help improve your postal/digital fundraising results.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To review the previous 6 blog posts, go to our Archive section found at the end of this blog post.
These 7 posts have focused on ideas/suggestions to help you significantly improve your direct marketing results in the marketing storms that have been with us since the arrival of COVID in early 2020, postal direct mail costs have gone up about 25% and they’re not ever going back down. Postage is scheduled to continue to increase far into the future.
Then in the spring of 2022, returns for most all nonprofits postal mail went south and have mostly stayed that way. This is true of liberal and conservative mailers, as well as the health and welfare community.
31. Identify what upsets/concerns donors and where you could be of help.
32. When drafting the letter, write to an intelligent friend who is a potential donor. Don’t write as if the letter is going to thousands, even though it is.
33. Send an annual membership card to your supporters.
34. Your gift matched (an anonymous donor will match your donation $ for $) or perhaps a more generous offer.
35. Send postcards pre-addressed to members of Congress, state legislatures, presidents of a business that you’re unhappy with, etc., etc.
36. A mailing built around a holiday (Easter, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, National Police Week, Veterans Day, etc.).
37. A mailing built around a special day, e.g., the president of your nonprofit’s birthday, an anniversary date, etc.
38. Use strong, well-written headlines and watch your returns go way up. David Ogilvy says that up to 80% of the success of a space ad is the headline.
39. Underline key points in your letter or reply form.
40. Contribute XX dollars to have your name added to our full-page ad.
41. Contribute XX dollars to donate a brick on a walkway of freedom.
42. Make it perfect tomorrow—today get a good package in the mail to the correct list.
